Landscape professionals are turning towards Florida-friendly landscaping practices. Much of these practices conserve water, reduce the runoff of fertilizers and minimize the need for pesticides and harsh chemicals. We practice greener alternatives to grass.
Creating environmentally friendly landscapes
After years of maintaining residential and commerical landscapes and seeing all the money and chemicals used to maintain turf, we decided there had to be a better alternative. We are a quality company that can convert turf dominated landscapes into an environmentally friendly and attractive landscape using natives, edibles and drought tolerant plants.
We Offer a Wide Variety of Services
Design
Evaluate overall site conditions including health of existing plants, identify invasive plants, evaluate irrigation coverage, sun exposure, drainage, and soil conditions.
Discuss customer’s needs and make recommendations based on budget, maintenance requirements and time frame to maturity.
We utilize as many healthy plants on site as possible, some may need to be divided and replanted. Eliminate or reduce turf areas, replace with pathways (mulch, paver, or stone), and/or low maintenance ground cover (dwarf jasmine, perennial peanut or sunshine mimosa).
Incorporate native plants, edible gardens, mosquito repelling plants, LED landscaping, pondless waterfalls, and natural stone borders.
Installation
Site preparation
Remove undesirable plants, transplant existing plants as needed.
Make improvements to irrigation, drainage and amend soil if necessary.
Deliver and install high quality plants, decorative stone, paver walkways, lighting, and water features.
Maintenance
Offering monthly, quarterly and annually services which include inspecting and adjusting irrigation system and landscape lighting.
Appropriate pruning, weed control, fertilizer application, replenish mulch, and replace or add plants.
Check and clean gutters if needed, pressure clean exterior of building, walks, and pavers.
Apply protective sealer and anti slip coating to paver or stone walks, patios or driveways.

AlterNative Landscaping LLC owned by Richard Beggs, began as The Grass Company in 1987, a turf maintenance company. We have been operating in the central Florida area for more than 30 years. After several years of maintaining turf and seeing how much labor, fertilizer and water were needed, I began to explore lower maintenance alternatives to turf. In 2006 we designed and installed a Water conservation demonstration project for Seminole county water department. This project was intended to be an example of a water conserving residential landscape which required less chemicals and maintenance by utilizing native plants.
Since then we have transitioned dozens of turf dominated residential landscapes to lush low maintenance environmentally friendly landscapes. We offer landscape design and installation services . We also offer tailored landscape and property maintenance services, using a network of quality , local, experienced employees and small business owners.
